Interviewed by: Eden Kent “I love the music making process and just seeing a song come alive from nothing to a beautiful piece that my students feel proud of performing after weeks of hard work. I try to prepare my students so that they can teach themselves how to read a piece of music and don’t need me to help them figure it out, to a place where they have the skills and tools to do it on their own. The whole point of teaching in my opinion is to get them [the students] to where we, as directors and mentors, become obsolete and they don't need us anymore. Sure, learning to sing a dotted quarter note or eighth note rhythm is important, but beyond that I think teaching them to be mature, capable adults who can function later on in life and be empathetic people who do the their best at having a positive impact is really the most important lesson.”

Interviewed by: Anna Chung, Eden Kent, and Angela Wu“[Coming to teach here, I didn’t expect] all the different hats you have to wear. I’m mom and counselor and nurse and psychiatrist and teacher and friend and enemy all in a ten minute period, and it’s intense. It’s demanding, it’s a lot, and it’s emotional. I worry about you guys. It’s a lot when you take it seriously… there’s a lot I want you guys to know about yourselves as people. I want content-wise for you guys to know that you can write to any occasion, any audience, for any purpose ever, but more than that, I want you guys to know that you have a voice and that you have things to say.”
Interviewed by: Miya Malouf“I always wanted to be a nurse ever since I was 11. I’m a nurturer by nature, and I just love taking care of people especially when they’re ill, trying to find better ways to help them feel better … I think that’s the biggest thing. We are here to help the students with any issues or health concerns that they might have and hopefully assist them to stay in class and stay healthy to learn."
Interviewed by: Anna Chung"One thing we have to do as librarians is to encourage students to read a lot and develop that habit. All the people who I admire in the world are readers. People who achieve things are people who read to pursue their own interests. The last book I read was a fantastic book about Elon Musk. He wasn’t really on my radar until I saw the launch of the Falcon Heavy Rocket. [The Foundation series by Issac Asimov] was a book that … Elon Musk read as a kid, and obviously it inspired him to do what he has done in making private space travel a reality. Pretty much, looking at anyone who’s really done something, they are people who have imagined a better world through reading books.”
